By car
1
From Elbasan — cross the bridge and turn left after 200 metres
Head towards Cerrik and cross the bridge. After about 200 metres, turn left onto the SH88 towards Gjinar. Follow this road into the mountains.
2
7.5 km on the SH88 — about 15 minutes
A winding mountain road. Take it easy, enjoy the scenery. You'll pass through some small villages — keep going.
3
Turn left uphill — easy to miss!
Keep an eye out for the unpaved road going left and uphill towards PasneserPark. It's easy to miss.

If you reach Restaurant Oda Qosja (great restaurant by the way) — you've gone too far. Turn around, and after about 100 metres the turn is on your right, heading uphill to PasneserPark.

There are other routes to PasneserPark through the mountains, but those require a 4x4 or a capable motorbike.
After about 15 minutes you'll see a yellow house on the right
Drive a bit further, your bell tent will be visible on the right. A little further ahead you can park.
By taxi
A taxi from Elbasan costs around 1500 lek. Before you get in, mention that the last stretch is an unpaved mountain road — not all drivers are happy about it, so it's better to agree upfront. If in doubt, message us and we can help arrange things.
Ask us for help
By bus
From Elbasan, take a bus or furgon towards Shelcan from the Regional Bus Station (Rruga Nikolla Puka). Buses run until around 17:00. Ask for the bus to Shelcan — locals will point you in the right direction.

Get off at the end of the paved road and message us — we'll come and pick you up for €5.
Request a pickup — €5
Hitchhiking
Hitchhiking works surprisingly well in Albania — people are genuinely helpful and curious. Stand at the edge of Elbasan on the road towards Shelcan and stick out your hand. Good chance you'll get a ride for most of the way. If you get dropped off before PasneserPark, message us and we'll pick you up for €5.
Not sure where you are?
Just send us a message and we'll guide you in. It happens to the best of them.

What's included — bring nothing
You don't need to pack much. The tent has everything: bedding, blankets, pillows and towels are all provided. Just bring your clothes and yourself. The outdoor kitchen is shared and fully equipped. If you want to cook for yourself, bring ingredients. We also have things available to take over and we can arrange it for you if needed — it'll work out.
Bring cash
There are no ATMs nearby and nowhere accepts card payments in the area. Make sure you have enough cash (Albanian lek or euros) before you head up the mountain. No shops in the immediate area either — but if you need something basic, we probably have it. Just ask and we'll sort you out.
Fresh fruit & vegetables
Monday and Thursday a van comes up the mountain with fresh local fruit and vegetables.

House Rules

There are already so many laws and rules in the world. We don't have much to add at PasneserPark.

Respect yourself, respect us, respect the world.

We think that covers it. : )
"If something's not right, tell us before you leave. We're here, we're human, and we'll fix it."

— Frank & Merel
Tito the dog

The animals

They were here before you. They'll be here after you.

Tito — Head of Security · Dog
Raised on the streets of Tirana, Tito worked his way up to Head of Security at PasneserPark. He also works part-time as a sheep herder and as a tour guide. Tito loves attention from guests. Give him enough of it and he'll spontaneously decide to become your personal tour guide for the rest of the day.
Alpha — Pest Control & Snake Prevention · Cat
Alpha catches mice before the snakes in the area can get to them — a genuinely useful service. She came all the way from the streets of Shkodër, together with Besa. She is an incredibly sweet animal. But she has boundaries. Respect them — she will bite if she's had enough.
Besa — Sensitive Soul · Cat
Besa came from the streets of Shkodër together with Alpha. She is gentle, warm, and a little sensitive — please treat her carefully. She'll find you in the hammock and ask for nothing except a bit of quiet company. She is wonderful. Handle with care.
The Chickens — Egg Production & Alarm Service
Our chickens produce genuinely excellent eggs — rich, fresh, and very local. You may be offered some during your stay. One of them also doubles as an alarm clock. She starts somewhere around 5:00 AM and does not negotiate. Earplugs are available — but honestly, the sunrise is worth it.
Also in the neighbourhood
All our neighbours are farmers. One has an olive grove, a few sheep and a donkey. Another has about 100 sheep. And yet another has 100 to 150 goats, depending on the season. The mountains are also home to many species of birds, tortoises roaming freely, lizards sunbathing on the rocks, and some impressively fat toads. The mountains around PasneserPark are genuinely alive.

Use with people your age or younger. Friendlier and more casual.

We called it PasneserPark because it has two meanings: a place in the near future you're looking forward to, and a place where time goes slow. Both felt right.
Avash avash
Slowly slowly
You'll hear it everywhere. No rush. Albania runs on its own clock and after a few days, you will too.

Two words. Sounds simple. It isn't. Jo means no but sounds like 'yo'. And Albanians nod for yes and shake their head for no. You will get this wrong. Everyone does.

Raki
Raki is important in Albania. It is both the cause and the solution to almost every problem. Don't be surprised if it appears at breakfast.

Cornelian cherry raki

In Albania, the first no is just the opening. Only the third answer counts. Expect to be asked three times before your answer is accepted. As a tourist you really don't have to drink raki but knowing how to decline politely will save you.
Coffee
Albania is the country with the most coffee bars per inhabitant in the world. For every 152 inhabitants there is one coffee bar. Albanians usually drink espresso strong. Almost as strong as raki. And the two often come together: a coffee, a raki, and a glass of water.

Food & drink
On Monday and Tuesday, a small van drives past PasneserPark selling fresh vegetables and fruit. You'll hear it coming from far away the megaphone on the roof. Albanian alphabet
Albanian looks scary at first. But once you know a few rules, it clicks. Unlike English, Albanian is almost perfectly phonetic every letter sounds the same every time. No exceptions. No surprises.
ë
Like the 'u' in "butter"
The most common Albanian letter. It's in almost every word: Mirëdita, Faleminderit, Pasnesër...
ç
Like 'ch' in "church"
xh
Like 'j' in "jungle"
gj
No real English equivalent
Just say 'g' and 'y' fast together.
dh
Like 'th' in "this"
th
Like 'th' in "think"
ll
A deeper 'l' further back in the mouth
rr
Roll your r like you're purring
q
Like 'ch' but softer like 'ky'
j
Like 'y' in "yes"
Master these and you can read almost anything out loud. Albanians will be impressed.

Bar evening at PasneserPark

Local tips

From us to you. The stuff that isn't on Google.

At PasneserPark
Always · Free
Do absolutely nothing
The hammock is there for a reason. Bring a book, lie back, and let the mountain do the rest. This is the activity. You don't need a plan.
Evening · At the bar area
Golden hour at the viewpoint
Walk up to the rocks behind the tents in the hour before sunset. The light over the valley is extraordinary. Bring something to drink and just sit there.
Anytime
Get creative
There are board games, cards, and space to draw, write or think. If you feel inspired — go for it. If you don't — that's fine too.
Morning
The mountain behind the park
Behind the park is a beautiful hiking area. Walk up the hill behind the tents. It gets steeper but the views open up fast. Morning is best — cooler, quieter, and the light is incredible.
Nearby walks & villages
Walk · ~30 min · Must-see
Shelcan village & the Church of St. Nicholas
A half-hour walk down the hill brings you to Shelcan village — a quiet, real Albanian mountain village. At the top of the village stands the Church of St. Nicholas (Kisha e Shën Kollit), an Orthodox church that became a Cultural Monument of Albania in 1948.

Inside, the walls are completely covered with frescoes by Onufri. A bit lower than the church is Tolli's café — very nice man, excellent coffee and also has beer and of course raki and chips : )
Village · ~30 min by car
Gjinar — authentic mountain village
About 22 km southeast of Elbasan lies Gjinar, a mountain village in the heart of the Shpati range. Tourism is only just beginning here — it's still genuinely authentic.

There's a Thursday bazaar where all local farmers sell their crops and where you can also buy goats, sheep and donkeys, and some second-hand clothing and tools — in short, everything you'd expect in a mountain village. Pine forests, canyon walks, and mountain air that actually tastes different.

From Gjinar, you can hike towards Mount Bukanik (1,831m) — a serious hike but stunning.
Hike · Full day · Serious
Mount Bukanik — 1,831m
The highest peak in the area. The trailhead starts around 1,500m, so the climb itself is manageable. Go with good shoes, water, and an early start. The summit view over the Shpati range is worth every step.
Restaurants

There are many restaurants, but these are our favorites.

10 min · Just down the road
Restaurant Oda Qosja
You already know where this is — it's the landmark on the route to PasneserPark. Lots of flowers, Albanian music, traditional food, good atmosphere. Good portions, genuinely good. The owner speaks good English. Worth stopping for lunch or dinner.
Elbasan · Albanian · Unmissable
Kala Restaurant — inside the castle
A restaurant inside the old Ottoman castle walls of Elbasan. The setting alone is worth it. Order tavë kosi — baked lamb with yoghurt, Elbasan's most famous dish. This is the place to try it properly.
Elbasan · Pizza & more
Basilico Pizzeria
Good pizza in Elbasan city. Reliable, popular with locals, worth a stop if you're in town.
Elbasan · Pizza & Albanian dishes
Don Camillo
Pizzeria that also does Albanian dishes — a good combination. A bit more upscale. Solid food, good value.
Elbasan · Artisan pizza & premium burgers
Brumi
Wood-fired pizza and premium burgers. Artisan, fresh, well made. Rruga 11 Nentori, Elbasan.
For the best but hard-to-find, genuinely authentic places with good simple food — ask us.
Ask Frank or Merel
Elbasan city
Culture · Old town
The Ottoman castle walls
The old castle walls of Elbasan date back to the 15th century, built by Sultan Mehmed II. You can walk on them and through them — the old center is inside. There's hospitality, including Kala Restaurant, and it's still part of daily life in the city.
Culture · Museum
Ethnographic Museum
The Ethnographic Museum of Elbasan shows traditional Albanian life — crafts, clothing, household items from the region. Small museum, but gives a good picture of how life here used to be.
Market · 7 days a week from early morning
Tregu Fruta Perime Elbasan "Markata"
The fruit and vegetable market of Elbasan. All kinds of fruit, vegetables and also nuts, oil, homemade wines, rakia, olive oil. Lots of local but also imports. Busiest in the mornings. Rruga Thoma Kalefi.
Drink · Everywhere in Albania
Coffee shops
There are many coffee shops. Coffee and raki are the most sold, often there's also beer and chips.
